Well, moving away from the Shi'i-Sunni discussions, who are your favorite Sahabis?

Mine would be Abu Dharr (rah).

Hard choice, but I gotta pick Umar Ibn Al Khattab Ra
They asked how many will be with the one I hate. I said 313

Abu Bakr would be first, `Umar maybe a close second.

In the words of the Prophet (saws),

"Aisha, abuha, and 'Umar" (paraphrased from hadeeth).

If I were to be honest with you I don't know the much. But it seems some hadiths from the Imams have the Imams praising them, and that's enough for me.

Many went astray, but some came back to the straight path. Also, we obviously respect the martyrs who died in the early wars, especially the shuhada of Badr, salumu Allahi alayhim.

Hamzah ibn Abdul Mutallib
I know speculation is not encouraged, but I sometimes wonder how things would go down would he outlive the Prophet saws. I wonder who would be the most prominent member of Banu Hashim, him or Ali and how things would unfold during Saqifah and so on and what he would do and how Ali, Abu Bakr and others would take it.

Nice point! I didn't mention the Sahabis who died before the Prophet (saww) did, but yes, if I did, then Hamza (ra) would be the top.

I see your list not including Hamzah or Ibn `Abbas, I remind you that "companion" includes ANYBODY who accompanied the Prophet (saw), daughters, wives, cousins, neighbors, friends etc... We're speaking linguistically here, not Istilahiyyan.

Then you can add the Prophet's (saw) adopted son too, Zayd died early.
