Because they envy people generally and our Prophet (saw) in specific.

You'll have to elaborate. They envied people generally and the Prophet out them as well...so how does it refer only to the Prophet?

Did those people specifically say,  "ONLY the Prophet(pbuh)" ? If yes, then please quote them.

If No, and they just mentioned Prophet(pbuh) without stating that, its only about him, then can't it be the case that, since Prophet(pbuh) was envied in specific, they mentioned him, without mentioning that it limits him alone. And they were open to the view that Muslims too were envied in general?

Because in Arabic this expression can be intended to mean a single person.

For example, you are in a room and a person speaks loudly and rudely. You make a comment saying: "People are so rude."

This is plural directed towards a singular person and that is the equivalent of it in Arabic. As for the verse about the daughters, this is unheard of in Arabic that it's a plural expression directed at the singular, nobody understands it as such.

PS. Tabari thinks it refers to the Jews. Zamakhshari thinks it refers to the Prophet (saw) AND believers.

I can't really take your word for that to be honest.

The Quran says "our women" in Suratal Auli-Imran, and we know he only brought Fatima.

That doesn't matter as he decided to bring only one, which was his daughter. He could've brought more, aunts, wives or other daughters if available. There's no written rule that you had to bring every single woman, he even referred to himself in plural (ourselves). Don't forget a man can refer to his single wife as "Ahel" and that's a plural word.

No Arab has an issue with this linguistically or practically.
