Title: Are prophets infallible ?
Post by: Abubakar on December 30, 2015, 10:00:15 PM
Salam

According to sunni beliefs are prophets infallible?

Since Shias believe that all prophets and their Imams are infallible, and if you are to follow the definition of infallibility according them (I.e An Infallible don't forget or make mistakes) then it seems the Qur'an is totally against it.

Evidence of that is about MUSAH(as) killing someone and also forgets, Ibrahim (as) initially taken the moon and Sun as his God, Yunus (as) losing hope in Allah and even tried running away, Adam (as) disobeying Allah by eating the apple and so on.

All these are examples that prophets can forget or make mistakes therefore against Infallibility.

So what is the Sunni view about the Infallibility of prophets ?

For the Sunnis, infallibility is understood to mean they are innocent of all sins.

Rasoollulah was infallible in the sense that he was not able to sins according to the Rawafidh. He allegedly appointed Ali Ra as his successor and informed the masses as well. But after he passed away, Abu bakr Ra was elected. So Rasoollulah, according to shias, did an awful job of informing the masses, you know, those hadith the rawafidh love to use

Being infallible does not mean one is unable to make innocent mistakes.

Being infallible does not mean one is unable to make innocent mistakes.

Meaning the Sunni definition of Infallible is different from the Shias' ?

This is where they are playing with semantics, and using taqiyyah to deny what is in their books. Again there is no ijma in their sect to prove their case. Shaykh Mufid for example disagrees with Shaykh Saduq that Prophets have the capability to forget. However, he doesn't ever provide any ahadith to prove this. Rather his 'Aql' is given preference and  supposedly becomes binding on their sect.

However, textually Prophets can forget in their hadith books.

In delivering their message they are Mas'um. Not outside of that though
