Title: Suyuti on Abu Talib
Post by: confusedshia on October 11, 2017, 02:57:17 AM
Salam,

Is it true that a number of Sunni scholars (Suyuti in particular) believed that Abu Talib was a Muslim?

I read somewhere that Suyuti wrote a book called "Bughyat al-talib fi iman Abi Talib" in which he argues that Abu Talib as a Muslim. If this is true, it would be interesting to know how Suyuti interpreted the following narrations in Bukhari and other collections:

https://sunnah.com/urn/44500
https://sunnah.com/bukhari/23/114
https://sunnah.com/urn/43520
https://sunnah.com/nasai/21/219

Did Suyuti have a different interpretation of the above reports or did he reject the reports themselves?

Wa alaykum alsalam

No major scholar held this opinion. I do not believe al Suyuti has a book with such a name.

I searched for the book , and found that, a Shia scholar named Mohammed Amili has a book with the same name.

You should contact them in this case, if they fail to answer then know that, this website is the former Answering Ansar website, it was infamous for its lies and deception, and was exposed so badly by Sunni defense website that it had undergo a transfomation and come up with a new name.

No such book with such a name has been printed. Scholars don't usually ignore Al Suyuti's works. They race to print his books. Also, Shias sometimes print Sunni books, and yet have ignored this one.

Email them asking for a PDF of it.

Abu Talib died as a MUSHRIK, and undoubtedly he will be in the fire of Jahanam.

He is a momin among sufi leaning Sunnis. I believe he was a momin but this is not a general Sunni view.

Are you saying that Suyuti did indeed hold this view?

He said "some" Sufis, not Suyuti.
