'Abbas is from me... need grading

أخبرنا أحمد بن سليمان قال أنبأنا عبيد الله عن إسرائيل عن عبد الأعلى أنه سمع سعيد بن جبير يقول أخبرني ابن عباس أن رجلا وقع في أب كان له في الجاهلية فلطمه العباس فجاء قومه فقالوا ليلطمنه كما لطمه فلبسوا السلاح فبلغ ذلك النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فصعد المنبر فقال أيها الناس أي أهل الأرض تعلمون أكرم على الله عز وجل فقالوا أنت فقال إن العباس مني وأنا منه لا تسبوا موتانا فتؤذوا أحياءنا فجاء القوم فقالوا يا رسول الله نعوذ بالله من غضبك استغفر لنا

Looking for a grading on this - as far as I know it's daif.

Everyone in the chain is golden except "عبد الأعلى بن عامر الثعلبي" who is the main narrator of this Hadith from Sa`eed ibn Jubayr. He is a popular Kufan, truthful but make mistakes in his narrations, which is why he appears to be "Layyin" and some said "Laysa bil-Qawi", thus he is weak but not very weak and his weakness is very light.

Since it's from the narrations of virtue, lenience is tolerable.

Assalamu Alaikum Brothers in Islam (Sunnis)

Farid, this hadith is accepted based on many other supporting evidences. Such is the way of the masters of the Hadith such a Imam Yahya Ibn Maeen, Imam Wakee Ibn Jarah and Mula Ali Qari etc that in virtues, hadith is accepted even if it is weak, as long as it has some supporting evidence!

On a side note, Abbas R.A and Ibn Abbas were both people of many virtues.

Interesting that some shia to change this and qoute this bogus shia narration "Ali is of me and I am of him, and only after me is he the mawla of all believers"

May Allah protect our Imaan and Expose the hypocrites.

This hadith is narrated in many books such as
Sunan At-Tirmizi
Musnad Ahmed
Mustadrak Alhakim Ala Saheehain
Mujam Alkabeer

Based on these many different chains of narrations this Hadith had strength in it to reach the level of Hasan, therefore it can not be totally disregarded.

In my above post I gave rule of the Muhaditheen regarding Hadith of virtue.

I'm only strict on `Ali's virtues since it is established that a gigantic amount of virtues were fabricated by his supporters, so I'm very skeptical of any non-authentic virtues of his.
