End of Abdullah ibn Saba
« on: June 08, 2015, 08:03:41 AM »
As Salamu Alaikum,
There are 2 types or narrations available about ibn Saba in Shia books-
1. He was exiled to Madaen
2. He was burnt alive
Which is correct according to historical proofs?
As I have read somewhere that, a group of Sabaiite people were burnt by Ali(r.a.) , not ibn Saba.

He was exiled, some of his followers were burned.

Religion = simple & clear

I don't think there is sufficient proof for either of the two views. Not much is known about the details of the life of Ibn Saba', especially from the Sunni view.

Would you mind sharing sources for both Sunni views?

This really begs the question; is there really a "sunni" view on historical events?  Heck, even saying there are "Sunni" interpretation on every single event in the Seerah is impossible.

Sunnism is a general way of looking at Islam; not history, science, math etc.  Some of our sunni scholars are trained scientists and some of them are shockingly ignorant of science; neither represents Sunni Islam as far as I'm concerned.

It is rare , the Burning of ibn Saba in Sunni sources, I got these in a website

Ibn Qutayba-

@ Khaled: When I say Sunni view, I mean that I am looking for something that is found in Sunni history books, not Shia ones.

@ Muhammad Tazin: As I thought, a very late opinion.
