Title: Shaykh Saduq: Muhammad bin Ali al-Baqir had 60 slaves
Post by: MuslimK on November 18, 2017, 02:27:47 PM
Al-Saduq narrates with authentic chain in Shia books that Muhammad bin Ali al-Baqir, considered the 5th Imam by twelvers, had sixty slaves.

Only 60 slaves? So much oppression?  ;)

Most of them were very rich and influential, some had good relations with the rulers.

The only time you ever get close to this is with Imam al-Ridha. If you read the works of Tabari, who is writing very close to the Abbasids and sometimes only has one individual between him and someone who witnessed the Caliphs and al-Ridha , you will find that the political scenario of the time was complicated.

There were resurgences in resistance movements purporting the idea that leadership should come from the Banu Hashim. Al Mamun was intelligent, and thus attempted to try to appease them using a tactic which is commonly used by Kings - make someone they respect as your Heir and act kind to them.  This is why you find he went out of his way to change the colour of the state to green, made him his heir , and other such things.

With the exception of Umar b. Abdul Aziz, all twelve of the leaders after Muhammed [saw] have faced oppression by the ruling authorities.  One man i would say who was indeed very close to the rulers of the time was Al-Zuhri, with the Ummayad caliphs. Al Khui' considers him as a relatively good man who was not a nawasib. I say that here is a lot to link him to the Ummayads, and Allah knows best about him.

We know like any family who ruled, they will be suspicious to other family which might be their rival. Same with ummayad to hashemite. Many hashemite rebelled and faced worse oppression by the ruling authorities who thought they were bigger threat to their rule than 11 imam. twelvershia.net collected many hashemite rebellion, you can check it out there.

It shows that al-Baqir was a very wealthy man.

Good. That is ni'mah from Allah. As long as you use your wealth for the sake of His Deen, how is having a lot of money a bad thing?

Do you believe you have to be poor to be pious? Maybe you don't know about the Kingdom and wealth of Sulayman (as).

Thanks for agreeing. That was the whole point.

No, there is nothing wrong with being wealthy. No such claims have been made here.

this is funny. First, like a typical shia, you didnt read the article before replying and when MuslimK explained it to you, you thought its trying to ridicule imam for being wealthy. You shias really have comprehension issue 😆

The Imam had sixty slaves and still he didn't bring up the real Quran? Why the 12th imam has to bring up the Quran? Why not Imam Baqir?

We don't have comprehension issues, in fact you've got the anti Shia virus. You're poisoned about the Shias from day one so there's no cure for you I guess. 😀
