Hafs and Asim's authenticity?

What did the Salaf say about Hafs and Asim? A brother told me that a Shi'i said that they were graded as liars, weak, fabricators etc etc by the 'Ulamah, the Shi'i provided no citations but the brother would like clarification on this issue. Jazak Allahu Khayr

If I didn't then know that `Asim is almost Thiqah and Hafs is Saduq.

Nobody ever said that Asim was a liar. He was a major hadith narrator.

Hafs is weak in hadith, but an Imam in recitation. If he lied in recitation of the Qur'an then why do all Shias rely on his recitation? I have a good book that explains that the recitation of Hafs was not recited by him alone, but it is mutawatir in Al Kufa. The recitation is attributed to Hafs because he is one of the biggest recitors of his time.
