List of key ayaat that shia interpret different to sunnis
« on: October 25, 2018, 12:39:22 AM »
Assalamu alaykum everyone

I am still a beginner in shia-sunni polemics and would like to familiarise myself with the key qur'an ayaat that the shia interpret differently to sunnis.

I am guessing some things have the same tafseer for shia and sunnis, like the ayah regarding qisas for example, and some ayaat like the hadeeth regarding Allahs sakeenah descending on the prophet SAW and Abu Bakr RAA in the cave or Ayesha RAA being exhonerated from zina are interpretted differently.

A comprehensive list of all ayaat that have different tafseers for sunni and shia would be a really useful tool for me.

Also, do the shia actually have their own translations of the quran in english that contains their tafseers?

Jazakum Allahu Khair

Walaikum Salam,

Welcome to the forum,

This is a good idea actually to have all the verses listed. Some common ones that come to my mind are 4:59, 5:55, 5:67, 5:3, 33:33, 2:124, 42:23. Tafsir Qummi, Ayashi etc the classical Imami Tafsirs are good sources to get the Shia view - not sure if they are available in English.

Walaikum Salam,

Welcome to the forum,

Jazak Allahu khair bro, I have a blog and inshAllah i am going to make a post specifically focused on collecting the important Ayaat related to this issue inshAllah. I will start to take a look at the ayaat you provided bro, thanks for that, really useful.

Here is my blog:
https://thesunnifier.home.blog/2018/10/25/sunni-shia-polemics-resources/

I don't speak other languages like Persian, Urdu etc as I am a revert, and my arabic is pretty decent alhamdulillah but not good enough to read a text yet (it would take me a day to read a page or two haha).

So I am really looking for an English language reference from the shia perspective.

The shia seem to claim Yusuf Ali and Shakir but I dont think these would really include shia tafseer.

I found an online version of "Agha Pooya" in English which seems to give a detailed shia tafseer in English. So i will look up your suggested ayaat there inshAllah.

I seem to remember that some of the english translations were full shia translations that included their tafseer of ayaat that severely differed to sunni tafseer. If no one else already knows them then I will do some research and post what I found out here inshAllah.

The verses you provided are useful as I know where to look at get the bias the translation.

Do you have any articles explaining these ayaat from the both perspectives? Explaining how shia interpret them and plus our rebuttal?

A lot of the issues are more hadeeth focused, e.g. Fadak, Ali Mawla hadeeth etc. The only qur'an focused discussions I have encountered so far as related to the cave during hijra, and the cloak and purification of ahlal bait ayah

Online Tafsir:

Are you able to be more specific? I am looking specifically for ayaat that are controversial or have significantly different tafaseer between the two firqatayn

If you make a specific search on these websites you can find the relevant articles, insha'Allah.

For instance read this link for the interpretation of 33:33 - it is very detailed.
https://youpuncturedtheark.wordpress.com/2013/07/28/our-articles-proving-wives-of-prophetsaw-being-part-of-aal-and-ahlelbayt-of-prophetsaw/

Would be great if someone list all the articles discussing those verses.
