Qur'an challenge! Where isn't Ali?

Assalam aleikum,

This will probably be a long thread if Allah permits. In this thread I would like to go through all verses of the Qur'an and see if there is a shi'i report present that connects the verse somehow in some way to Ali(karam Allahu wajhah) or the Progeny of the Prophet s.a.w. in general or with regards to their enemies or with regards to their rights. I wont bother about weak or strong narrations as the point is to show that there was a massive and quite obsessive movement that goes far beyond just just a few zealots here and there or dispelling Umayyad propaganda that doesn't come close to the exaggeration even if all is assumed false and fabricated.

Everyone can participate and I will probably miss a lot of narrations connected to the verses, so if I miss a verse and you know of  a narration, feel free to add it. However, one narration per verse is enough.

Surah Fatiha Verse 1

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Sahih International
In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد رحمه‌الله ، قال : حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار ، عن العباس بن معروف ، عن صفوان بن يحيى ، عمن حدثه ، عن أبي عبد الله عليه‌السلام أنه سئل عن بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم فقال : الباء بهاء الله ، والسين سناء الله ، والميم ملك الله ، قال : قلت : الله؟ قال : الألف آلاء الله على خلقه من النعيم بولايتنا ، واللام إلزام الله خلقه ولايتنا ، قلت : فالهاء؟ قال : هوان لمن خالف محمدا وآل محمد صلوات الله عليهم ، قال : قلت : الرحمن؟ قال : بجميع العالم ، قلت : الرحيم؟ قال : بالمؤمنين خاصة

from  Abu  Abdullah asws where  he  questioned  about ‘بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ’,  He asws said: ‘The ‘Ba’ is  for Bahaullah (Beauty  of  Allah azwj)  and  the ‘Seen’ is  for Sanaullah (The Splendour  of  Allah azwj)  and  the ‘Meem’ is  for Mulkullah (The  Kingdom  of  Allah azwj)’. He (the narrator) said, ‘I said, ‘(What about) ‘Allah?’ He asws said: ‘The ‘Alif’ stands for the  Favours  of  Allah azwj to  His azwj creatures  which  He azwj has  Graced  by  our asws Wilayah;  and ‘Laam’ is  (Lazaam)  Necessitation  by  Allah azwj our asws Wilayah  upon His azwj creatures ‘.  I  said: ‘(What  about)‘ Lah?’ He asws said: ‘It  is  for  the  one  who opposes Muhammad saww and  the  Progeny asws of  Muhammad saww’.    said: ‘الرَّحْمَٰنِ’?’ He asws said: ‘To  the  whole  world’.  I  said: ‘الرَّحِيمِ’?’ He asws said: ‘To  the  Believers especially’.

Surah Fatiha verse 2:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

[All] praise is [due] to Allah , Lord of the worlds -

ابن علي بن محمد بن علي بن موسى بن جعفر بن محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن علي بن أبيطالب عليهم السلام، قال: جاء رجل إلى الرضا عليه السلام، فقال: يا ابن رسول الله أخبرني عن قول الله عز وجل (الحمد لله رب العالمين ما تفسيره ؟ فقال: لقد حدثني أبي عن جدى عن الباقر، عن زين العابدين عن أبيه عليهم السلام أن رجلا جاء إلى أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام فقال: أخبرني عن قول الله عزوجل (الحمد لله رب العالمين) ما تفسيره. فقال: الحمد لله هو أن عرف عباده بعض نعمه عليهم جملا، إذ لا يقدرون على معرفة جميعها بالتفصيل لأنها أكثر من أن تحصى أو تعرف، فقال لهم قولوا: الحمد لله على ما أنعم به علينا رب العالمين، وهم الجماعات من كل مخلوق من الجمادات و الحيوانات، أما الحيوانات فهو يقلبها في قدرته، ويغذوها من رزقه، ويحوطها بكنفه ويدبر كلا منها بمصلحته، وأما الجمادات فهو يمسكها بقدرته يمسك المتصل منها أن يتهافت، ويمسك المتهافت منها أن يتلاصق ويمسك المساء أن تقع على الأرض إلا بإذنه ويمسك الارض أن تنخسف إلا بأمره إنه بعباده لرؤف رحيم. قال عليه السلام: (رب العالمين) مالكهم وخالقهم وسائق أرزاقهم إليهم من حيث هم يعلمون ومن حيث لا يعلمون، والرزق مقسوم وهو يأتي ابن آدم على أي سيرة سارها من الدنيا ليس تقوى متق يزايده ولا فجور فاجر يناقصه، وبيننا وبينه ستر، وهو طالبه، ولو أن أحدكم يفر من رزقه لطلبه رزقه، كما يطلبه الموت، فقال الله جل جلاله: قولوا الحمد لله على ما أنعم به علينا وذكرنا به من خير في كتب الاولين، قبل أن تكون ففي هذا ايجاب على محمد وآل محمد و [على] شيعتهم أن يشكروه بما فضلهم
The  Imam asws said: ‘A  person  came  to Al-Reza asws and  said: ‘O  son asws of  the Messenger saww of Allah azwj, inform me about the Words of Allah azwj‘الحمد لله رب العالمين’ “Praise be to the Lord of the worlds”,  what  is  its  explanation?’ He asws said: ‘My father asws narrated to me asws from my forefather Al-Baqir asws from Zayn-ul-Abideen asws that a person came to Amir-ul-Momineen asws and said: ‘Inform me about the Words of  Allah azwj ‘الحمد لله رب العالمين’,  what  is  its  explanation? ’He asws said: “The Praise is due to Allah”, it is the recognition by him of some of Allah azwj’s Bounties to him, in summary, as he does not have the ability to recognise all of them in detail, because they are too numerous to list and know. He asws said  to  them: ‘Say  the  Words ‘الحمد لله’ “Praise be to Allah” for  the  Bounties that   have   been   bestowed.’‘رب  العالمين’ "Lord   of   the   Worlds" includes   the communities of all creatures from the vegetation and animals. As for the animals, he has  placed  in  their  hearts  ability  to  fend  for  themselves  and also all about  for  their betterment.  And  as  for  the  vegetation,  He azwj Maintains  it  by  His azwj Power,  and Maintains it, and Holds the sky so that it does not fall down on the earth  except by His azwj Permission,  and  the  earth  does  not  collapse  except  by  His azwj Command, He azwj is Gracious and Merciful to His azwj servants.’ He asws said: ‘And ‘رب العالمين’ "Lord of the worlds" means that He azwj is their Master and their Creator and gives them sustenance from whether they know whether they know not. Sustenance has been categorized, and He azwj gives to the son of Adam asws equally regardless of which way he adopts. The pious does not get more due to his piety nor does the mischief maker get less due to his mischief. Between him and his sustenance that he strives for there is a veil. If any of you do not go and seek his sustenance, then sustenance will seek him out like death seeks him out. Amir-ul-Momineen asws said: ‘Allah azwj Said to them, ‘Keep saying ‘الحمد لله’ “Praise be to Allah” for the Bounties that have been given to you, and We azwj have Mentioned it with  it  the  good  in  the  Former  Books  beforehand.  So  in  this  is  an  obligation  to Muhammad saww and  his saww Progeny asws that  they asws been  Favoured  with  to  be above  all  others  and their  Shi'ites,  that  they  should  be  thankful  with  what  they have been Favoured by being above all others except for them asws.

Surah Fatiha verse 3:

الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Sahih International
The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

قوله عز وجل: " الرحمن الرحيم "  - قال الإمام عليه السلام: " الرحمن ": العاطف على خلقه بالرزق، لا يقطع عنهم مواد رزقه، وإن انقطعوا عن طاعته. " الرحيم " بعباده المؤمنين في تخفيفه عليهم طاعاته وبعباده الكافرين في الرفق بهم في دعائهم إلى موافقته. قال: وإن أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام قال: " الرحمن " هو العاطف على خلقه بالرزق.
قال: ومن رحمته أنه لما سلب الطفل قوة النهوض والتعذي جعل تلك القوة في أمه، ورققها  عليه لتقوم بتربيته وحضانته، فان قسا قلب أم من الأمهات أوجب تربية هذا الطفل [وحضانته]  على سائر المؤمنين، ولما سلب بعض الحيوانات قوة التربية لأولادها، والقيام بمصالحها، جعل تلك القوة في الأولاد لتنهض حين تولد وتسير إلى رزقها المسبب [3] لها.
قال عليه السلام: وتفسير قوله عز وجل " الرحمن ": أن قوله " الرحمن " مشتق من الرحمة  سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يقول: قال الله عز وجل: أنا " الرحمن ". وهي [من]  الرحم شققت لها اسما من اسمي، من وصلها وصلته، ومن قطعها قطعته. ثم قال علي عليه السلام: أو تدري ما هذه الرحم التي من وصلها وصله الرحمن، ومن قطعها قطعه الرحمن؟ فقيل يا أمير المؤمنين: حث بهذا كل قوم على أن يكرموا أقرباءهم  ويصلوا أرحامهم. فقال لهم: أيحثهم على أن يصلوا أرحامهم الكافرين، وأن يعظموا من حقره الله، وأوجب احتقاره من الكافرين؟ قالوا: لا، ولكنه حثهم على صلة أرحامهم المؤمنين. قال: فقال: أوجب حقوق أرحامهم، لاتصالهم بآبائهم وأمهاتهم؟ قلت: بلى يا أخا رسول الله. قال: فهم إذن إنما يقضون فيهم  حقوق الآباء والأمهات. قلت: بلى يا أخا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله. قال: فآباؤهم وأمهاتهم إنما غذوهم في الدنيا ووقوهم مكارهها، وهي نعمة زائلة، ومكروه ينقضي، ورسول ربهم ساقهم إلى نعمة دائمة لا تنقضي، ووقاهم مكروها مؤبدا لا يبيد، فأي النعمتين أعظم؟ قلت: نعمة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله أعظم وأجل وأكبر. قال: فكيف يجوز أن يحث على قضاء حق من صغر [الله]  حقه، ولا يحث على قضاء حق من كبر [الله]  حقه؟ قلت: لا يجوز ذلك. قال: فإذا حق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله أعظم من حق الوالدين، وحق رحمه أيضا أعظم من حق رحمهما، فرحم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله  أولى بالصلة، وأعظم في القطيعة فالويل كل الويل لمن قطعها، والويل كل الويل لمن لم يعظم حرمتها. أوما علمت أن حرمة رحم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله حرمة رسول الله، وأن حرمة رسول الله حرمة الله تعالى، وأن الله أعظم حقا من كل منعم سواه، وأن كل منعم سواه إنما أنعم حيث قيضه لذلك  ربه، ووفقه له. أما علمت ما قال الله تعالى لموسى بن عمران؟ قلت: بأبي أنت وأمي ما الذي قال له؟ قال عليه السلام: قال الله تعالى: يا موسى أتدري ما بلغت برحمتي  إياك؟ فقال موسى: أنت أرحم بي من أبي وأمي. قال الله تعالى: يا موسى وإنما رحمتك أمك لفضل رحمتي، فأنا الذي رققتها  عليك، وطيبت قلبها لتترك طيب وسنها  لتربيتك، ولو لم أفعل ذلك بها لكانت هي وسائر النساء  سواء. [ما يكون كفارة للذنوب] يا موسى أتدري أن عبدا من عبادي  يكون له ذنوب وخطايا تبلغ أعنان السماء فأغفرها له، ولا أبالي؟قال: يا رب وكيف لا تبالي؟ قال تعالى: لخصلة شريفة تكون في عبدي أحبها، وهي أن يحب إخوانه الفقراء المؤمنين، ويتعاهدهم، ويساوي نفسه بهم، ولا يتكبر عليهم. فإذا فعل ذلك غفرت له ذنوبه، ولا أبالي. يا موسى إن الفخر ردائي والكبرياء إزاري، من نازعني في شئ منهما عذبته بناري. يا موسى إن من إعظام جلالي إكرام العبد الذي أنلته حظا من [حطام]  الدنيا عبدا من عبادي مؤمنا. قصرت يديه في الدنيا، فان تكبر عليه فقد استخف بعظيم جلالي. [الحث على صلة رحم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله] ثم قال أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام: إن الرحم التي اشتقها الله عز وجل من رحمته بقوله: أنا " الرحمن " هي  رحم محمد  صلى الله عليه وآله، وإن من إعظام الله إعظام محمد صلى الله عليه وآله وإن من إعظام محمد صلى الله عليه وآله إعظام رحم محمد، وإن كل مؤمن ومؤمنة من شيعتنا هو من رحم محمد  وإن إعظامهم من إعظام محمد صلى الله عليه وآله. فالويل لمن استخف بشئ من حرمة محمد صلى الله عليه وآله، وطوبى لمن عظم حرمته، وأكرم رحمه ووصلها

The  Imam asws said: ‘الرحمن’ "The  Beneficent"– He azwj Gives  sustenance  to  His creation which never gets cut off even if they cut off their obedience to Him azwj. "The Merciful" – With the Believing servants, He azwj makes their obedience easy for them, and for the disbelieving servants approves their supplications with Kindness. ’ He asws said: ‘The Amir-ul-Momineen asws said: "The  Beneficent" – He azwj Gives sustenance to His azwj creation. It is His azwj Mercy that when a child does not yet have the strength to run around and acquire its sustenance, He azwj Gives that strength to his mother so that she can look after the child. And if the mother does not look after the  child  then  it  becomes  more  than  obligatory  for  the  rest  of  the  Believers  to  look after  the  child.  Some  animals  have  not  been  given  this  instinct  to  look  after  their young  ones  and  so  they  start  looking  for  their  own  sustenance  very  shortly  after birth. He asws said in the explanation of "The Beneficent": ‘The Word ‘Beneficent’ has been derived  from  the  Mercy.  I  have  heard  the Rasool Allah saww say:  Allah azwj Said: “I azwj am ‘the  Beneficent’ and  it  is  derived  from  the  Mercy,  a  Name  from  My azwj Names, whoever connects to it I shall be Connected to him, and whoever cuts himself from it then I shall cut him off from My azwj Mercy.’ Then Ali asws said: ‘Do you know what this Mercy is that whoever connects to it is connected to the Beneficent?’ They said: ‘O Amir-ul-Momineen asws! ‘Every  community  has  been  urged  by  this  to  honour  their  relatives maintain good relations with them.’ So he asws said to them: ‘Have any of them obligated to maintain good relations with the disbelievers, and respect the ones whom He azwj Has Belittled, and Enjoined the contempt of the disbelievers?’ They said: ‘No, but we have been urged to have good relations  with  the  Believers.’ He asws said: ‘Has  He azwj not  has  Enjoined  this  due  to their connection with their fathers and mothers?’ They said: Yes, O brother asws of the Messenger saww of Allah azwj.’ He asws said: ‘Understand then, that by doing this they are making up the rights of their mothers and fathers. They said: ‘Yes O brother of the Messenger of Allah saww.’ He asws said: ‘Their fathers and mothers provide them with sustenance in this world and prevent them from the abhorrent  and  this  is  a  declining  bounty  whilst  the Rasool  Allah saww gives  them everlasting  bounties  and  saved  them  from  eternal difficulties,  so  which  is  a  greater bounty?’ The Bounty of the Rasool Allah saww is greater and larger.’He asws said: ‘How  can  it  be  that  He azwj should  Urge  the  fulfillment  of  a  smaller  right and does not Urge the fulfillment of a greater right? That is not possible. The right of the Rasool  Allah saww is  greater  that  the  right  of  the  parents,  and  the  right  of  his saww relatives  also  is  greater  that  the  right  of  their  own  relatives.  So  the  maintenance  of relations  with  the  relatives  of  the Rasool  Allah saww is  greater  and  more  highly prohibited  to  be  cut  off.  So  woe  upon  woe  be  on  the  one  who  cuts  it  off,  and  woe upon woe be on the one does not respect his saww relatives. Do you not know that the sanctity of the relatives of the Rasool Allah saww is the sanctity of the Rasool Allah saww and  that  the  sanctity  of  the Rasool  Allah saww is  the  sanctity  of  Allah azwj.  Surely, Allah azwj’s  Right  is  greater  than  all,  even  from  all  the  Bounties  of  His azwj,  and  every Bounty apart from it. But rather, He azwj Chooses where it is destined to be for He azwj is it’s Lord azwj, and that Bounty is compatible with him.’ Do you not know  what Allah azwj Said to Musa Bin Imran asws?’ I said, ‘May my father and  mother  be  sacrificed  for  you asws,  what  was  it  that  He azwj Said  to  him as?’ He asws said: ‘Allah azwj the High Said: ‘O Musa asws! Do you know what has reached to you as of My azwj Mercy?’ Musa asws said: ‘You azwj are more Merciful to me as than my father and mother.’Allah azwj the High Said: ‘O Musa as! But rather, the mercy of your mother to you as was a Grace of My azwj Mercy, and it was I azwj Who inclined her towards you as, and Refined her heart to avoid her rest for your upbringing, and if I azwj had not Done that with her, then she would have been to you like any other woman.’

Then Amir-ul-Momineen asws said: The Mercy which Allah azwj Mighty and Majestic has Derived  with  His  Mercy  in  His azwj Words  "I  am  the  Beneficent" – This  is  for  the relatives  of  Muhammad saww,  and  whoever  considers  Allah azwj to  be  Great  has considered  Muhammad saww to  be  so,  and  whoever  magnified  Muhammad saww has magnified  relatives  of  Muhammad saww,  and  that  all  Believing  men  and  Believing women from  our asws Shites are from  the  relatives  of  Muhammad saww and  respecting them  is  to  respect  Muhammad saww.  So  woe  be  upon  the  one  who  belittles  anything from  the  sanctity  of  Muhammad saww,  and  good  news  is  for  the  one  who  respects his saww sanctity,  and  honours  his saww relatives,  and  maintains  good  relations  with them.’

Surah Fatiha verse 7:

صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
Sahih International
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

جعفر بن محمد عليهما السلام قال قول الله عزوجل في الحمد :صراط الذين انعمت عليهم يعنى محمدا وذريته صلوات الله عليهم.
Ja’far  Bin  Muhammad asws who asws said  regarding  the  Words  of  Allah azwj the  Mighty and  Majestic,  in Al-Hamd "The  Path  of  those  upon  whom  You  have  Bestowed Favours": ‘It means, Muhammad saww and his saww Descendants asws ’.

وَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ،عَنِ ابْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ،عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ(عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ) فِي قَوْلِهِ: غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ لاَ الضّٰالِّينَ .قَالَ:«الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ:اَلنُّصَّابُ،وَ الضَّالِّينَ:اَلشُّكَّاكُ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْرِفُونَ الْإِمَامَ».
from  Abu  Abdullah asws regarding  His azwj Words: “Not  (the  Path)  of  those  upon whom is Your Anger, nor of those who have gone astray”, he asws said: ‘Those upon whom is the Anger are the Hostile ones (The Nasibis), and the ones who have gone astray are the sceptics who have not recognised the Imam asws’.

I understand your thread but I doubt you could finish it. You'd have to write and translate more than half the Qur'an.

Great thread akhi. I will have to agree with Hani though. I have a suggestion for a much easier and useful format.

It would come in the form of a table, with the verse number on the left, the word/verse after it, then the Shia explanation after that, and a reference on the right.

So for example:

Inshallah some results regarding Surat al Baqarah will be posted soon. I found an interesting narration in al Kafi and graded Muwathaq by al Majlisi that summarizes this quite nicely:

أبو علي الأشعري ، عن محمد بن عبد الجبار ، عن صفوان ، عن إسحاق بن عمار ، عن أبي بصير ، عن أبي جعفر عليه‌السلام قال نزل القرآن أربعة أرباع ربع فينا وربع في عدونا وربع سنن وأمثال وربع فرائض وأحكام.
Abu Ali al Ash'ari from Muhammad bin Abd al Jabbar from Safwan from Ishaq bin Ammar from Abu Baseer from Abu Ja'far (as) that he said: "The Qur'an is sent down in four parts, one fourth about us, one fourth about our enemies, one fourth about the ways and examples and one fourth about the obligations and rulings."

You will see that this is not a joke and not very far off from the sheer amount of fabrication found regarding the explanation of verses. More interesting is that even the name of Surat al Baqarah is supposedly about the enemies of the Imams. The narration is not found in preserved Shia works but several classical Sunni scholars have written about the fact that in their time some Shia Tafsir explained the verse: "And [recall] when Moses said to his people, "Indeed, Allah commands you to slaughter a cow."" with the cow referring to Aisha, so even Surat al Baqarah should be called Surat Aisha according to them!
