Title: Abu Bakr appointed by Allah

Salam,

It has come to my attention that a number of classical Sunni scholars held the view that Abu Bakr was appointed as the first successor by Allah. Who were these scholars and why did they make this claim?

Salaam. From what I remember Imam Hasan al-Basri was on the view that he was appointed.

Scholars in general hold these two views:
1) He was appointed in clear (muhkam) way.
2) By some words, hints and etc, prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa sallam) pointed out that he wants Abu Bakr to be his successor.
