The super power imams just watched as their "oppressors" did their thing.

You mean why didn't they just overthrow the oppressors  themselves with their powers. You can ask the same thing about the Prophets (a) that were killed in Bani-Israel.

Sometimes God protects out of his wisdom - other times - he allows them to get killed.

This trial is said best by Imam Ali (a):

When Allah, the Glorified, deputed His prophets, if He had wished to open for them treasures and mines of gold and (surround them with) planted gardens and to collect around them birds of the skies and beasts of the earth, He could have done so. If He had done so then there would have been no trial, nor recompense and no tidings (about the affairs of the next world).

Those who accepted (His message) could not be given the recompense falling due after trial and the believers could not deserve the reward for good acts, and all these words 2 would not have retained their meanings. But Allah, the Glorified, makes His Prophets firm in their determination and gives them weakness of appearance as seen from the eyes, along with contentment that fills the hearts and eyes resulting from care-freeness, and with want that pains the eyes and ears.

If the prophets possessed authority that could not be assaulted, or honour that could not be damaged or domain towards which the necks of people would turn and the saddles of mounts could be set, it would have been very easy for people to seek lessons and quite difficult to feel vanity.

They would have then accepted belief out of fear felt by them or inclination attracting them, and the intention of them all would have been the same, although their actions would have been different. Therefore, Allah, the Glorified decided that people should follow His prophets, acknowledge His books, remain humble before His face, obey His command and accept His obedience with sincerity in which there should not be an iota of anything else; and as the trial and tribulation would be stiffer the reward and recompense too should be larger.
By the name of God, the (universally) Compassionate, The (extremely) Compassionate; for the unity of the Togetherness; Is their unity in the travels in the winter and summer. So let them Worship the Lord of this household. The one who fed them from hunger and gave them security from fear.

Some thoughts about Ghayba and successorship to leadership of the Prophet (s).

One Elyas (a) became the Imam/leader of light after Jesus (a) and this is why he returned with Jesus (a) along with Moses (a) while he was emphasized to return, and this is why Quran has him mentioned after Jesus (a) in a verse in 6th chapter, but also Shamoon (Simon) (a) according to Shiite hadiths, is a successor.

This means when Jesus (a) was raised, there was the Ghayba (hiddenness) of leaders appointed by God and no Messenger in the open, however disciples played a role in representing the message.

Simon (a) is of the disciples, and the way Quran addresses disciples, while they are highly praised, they are still volatile and can go astray.

However, it seemed out of all disciples, Simon (a) was emphasized on and there was need of (religious) leadership/authority with Jesus (a) ascending to heaven and Elyas (a) being hidden.

In the same way, when son of Hassan Alaskari (a) disappeared, there was need to fill the void. While the reputation of the first one like Simon (a) was high and people trusted him, eventually, this type of speaking on behalf of Imam Mahdi (a) would end with the 4th safeer.

Imam Mahdi (a) said to refer to his narrators of ahadith for the occurring events. Now in ahadith there is two type of narrators, there is those who just narrate, then those who know the truth and narrate the truth and prove it. It can be argued that the latter is who is meant not just one who narrates hadith.

This is just my thoughts, about Simon (a) succeeding. Simon (a) was not chosen by God like Moses (a) but he was a successor of Jesus (a) in a different sense, while the one who took on the position of the holy spirit was Elyas (a) and the pole of the time was Elyas (a).

I make an analogy, that in Ghayba, like wise, we can have none-appointed by God leaders like disciples were and particularly like Simon (a) was.
By the name of God, the (universally) Compassionate, The (extremely) Compassionate; for the unity of the Togetherness; Is their unity in the travels in the winter and summer. So let them Worship the Lord of this household. The one who fed them from hunger and gave them security from fear.

This poem also shows how I understand the cause of Ghayba at anytime.

Title: If the night veils the day

I swear by the holiness of the kings appointed by God
I swear by the unavenged blood split of them and their followers
The dark night veils the day
The day that always comes disaster be it may

I swear by the stars that manifest and then hide
It's always meant to stay
But God through his compassion
Returns us to night so we can take rest
Rest from the bright signs and clear proofs
In form of miracles and clear guidance that is best

If he did not do it, would anyone survive?
No surely not
He hides his kings
And their miracles cease temporarily
And people complain
Till the day brightens
Then war is waged again against the light

Day and Night
Night and Day
Alternating
Sometimes he sends signs
Other times he is prevented
When the first generations deny them

The Quran says
No night would occur
If the first generations would just accept miracles
But the successors
Try their best
And when their followers fail them
The night returns

But this night has been too long
Ugly is the injustice it has spread
longest of all nights
With tears of blood
We await his return
The last of the kings
The bright day is needed again

The terrible warnings
Have come about
In regards to the warnings of Quran
And we are not heading a good path
But the night cannot last forever
So what is going be our fate?

Terrible will be the fate of those warned
Yet ever mocking the promises
Heedlessly ignorant of what befell past nations
That opposed their Messengers

The Inevitable
What is the Inevitable?
And what will make you know the Inevitable?
Denied did Ad and Thamood the calamity!

I end with the beginning of Surah Haqah
But will anyone pay attention and be heedful?
By the name of God, the (universally) Compassionate, The (extremely) Compassionate; for the unity of the Togetherness; Is their unity in the travels in the winter and summer. So let them Worship the Lord of this household. The one who fed them from hunger and gave them security from fear.

Yahya (a) who was a successor of Sulaiman (A) got killed. You had it right when you understood that they only act according to God's permission.  Yahya (a) and Sulaiman (a) holy spirit power is one and same, except Sulaiman (a) was given permission to exercise some of it and God made his authority stronger that way, yet people didn't obey Sulaiman (a) in their hearts and accused him of being a sorcerer.

And our Imams (a) did a lot, they just don't see being accepted as political power in the Dunya as necessary to guide people if people don't want to accept.

At the end people are free and even Sulaiman (a) despite his miracles couldn't guide people and they accused him of being a sorcerer after his death.

Nothing (ever) keeps Us from sending signs except that the first ones denied them. We gave Thamud the she-camel as an eye-opener, but they wronged her. We do not send the signs except to cause fear.

And the people who disbelieve say why is not a sign revealed regarding him from his Lord, You are only a warner and for every people there is a guide.

Rather, they say confused visions/dreams rather he has forged it rather he is a poet so let him bring a sign likes those first ones were sent.
No one believed it from those nations we destroyed, will they believe?
And we did not send before you except men who revealed to therefore ask the family of the reminder if you do not know.

The first verse shows if ever God is not sending miracles, it's due first ones denying them. The second verse shows there is always a guide that can show miracles from God to prove he is a guide from God.  And the last verse is saying in context of them asking for miracles, go ahead ask the family of the reminder if you do not know.

We can see a combined understanding is that the family of the reminder are all capable of performing miracles and signs by God's permission.

However, if any time, the family of the reminder have no one among them in public and God is not sending miracles, is due to previous generations denying such miracles and proofs.

This essential proving if the miracles are not in public, something has gone wrong due to previous generations, and God out of his mercy and compassion to not destroy humanity has caused such signs no longer to be public. But as his guides have to perform miracles to prove their authority and that there is for every people a guide who can perform such miracles, this has proven the Imam in this age, in in ghayba, as there is no Imam in public performing miracles.

Yahya (as) was not the successor of Sulayman (as), they lived centuries appart. Secondly, most prophets did not have super powers you see in an avengers movie so it unsurprising that other humans martyred them.

The imams did nothing. According to shiaism, Ali wasn't even brave enough to tell the sahaba that mutah was not banned so he lied and said it was banned. The imams failed in every way. They failed their families by watching the women married off to their enemies. They failed the ummah because they were too scared to tell people about shiaism. It is the imams fault that the ummah became so bad. The safavids did more for shiaism than every single imam. Whilst the 12th imam hides due to fear, some random turkmen were brave enough to actually spread shiaism.

You keep shifting the goal posts. You literally have no proof that the imams can help you from the grave, just like you have no proof they even were imams or they had any power. Instead you switch the goal post and try to defend this by talking about the messengers or about miracles.

Answer is simple. They (as) were human and did not have super powers. You seem to have this false idea that all prophets had marvel superhero-like powers but they chose not to use them.

Whereas the imams, according to shiaism, had super powers but they didn't do anything to help the ummah.

The Quran shows indeed when God wanted to protect Ibrahim (a) from the fire, he can do so, and did so, so why didn't he protect Yahya (a)?

As far as using their powers, the Quran shows, they can only do per God's permission. So the choice is not theirs, but God's.

Whether they have power per your understanding or not, they only perform miracles and use such power by God's permission. This is where we should agree.

Yayha (a) is not direct successor of Sulaiman (a) but is one of his successors is what I meant.

Also by your logic only those whole ruled like Dawood (a) and Sulaiman (a) did something, Yahya (a) did nothing and didn't care for showing truth.

Yahya (as) did something, he publicly stated the truth so evil people martyred him.

Most imams did nothing at all. Most of them just spent their lives doing taqiyya whilst the ummah got corrupted by their enemies, whilst their daughters got married to their enemies. Look at the 12th imam, noones seen him, he just went into hiding because he was too scared to show people the truth. The imams were pretty much useless for shiaism. The imams actually corrupted the iman of Muslims because some of them even did things like publicly praise sahaba. Imagine being an imam and causing this type of confusion for the common Muslim.

Now obviously what shias say about the imams isn't true but I'm just laying out what the imams did and achieved if we take the shia view.

No you can't. All you're good at is adding "by God's permission" to your made up beliefs to try and back yourself. The messengers were special people no doubt but they were not what you're trying to make them out to be. The imams are so overpowered in comparison to what the messengers could actually do.

Okay brother show me all 12 names of the imams in the Qur'an.

Trust me, before I met shias, I had no clue about any 12 imams and I had read the Qur'an fully like 10 years before I met any shia. I've never met a person who realised the belief of 12 imams from the Qur'an. They always learn the 12 imam belief from shias, not the Qur'an.

Reputation is unreliable so much so that the Prophet (s) was unknown in terms of even being great:

And they said, ‘Why was not this Quran sent down to some great man from the two cities?’

The response by God was:

Your Lord creates whatever He wishes and chooses: they have no choice. Immaculate is Allah and exalted above [having] any partners that they ascribe [to Him].

And this was not the first time God has chosen a person:

Indeed God chose Adam and Nuh and the family of Ibrahim and the family of Imran over the worlds.

And such families were when his named was remembered therein and his light found in:

In houses/families Allah has allowed to be raised and wherein His Name is remembered; He is glorified therein, morning and evening,

Who peace was upon:

Say the praise is to God and peace is upon the servants that he has chosen, is God better or what they associate?

And who were means of tranquility:

And their prophet said to them, ‘Indeed the sign of his authority shall be that the Ark will come to you, bearing tranquility from your Lord and remaining that was left behind by the House of Moses and the House of Aaron, carried by the angels. There is indeed a sign in that for you, should you be believers.’

And God knows where best to put his message:

And when a sign came to them, they said, 'We will not believe until we are given the like of what God's Messengers were given.' God knows very well where to place His Message; and humiliation in God's sight shall befall the wicked, and a terrible chastisement, for what they devised.

And forbid others to attribute purity to humans and Jinn without proof:

Have you not considered those who attribute purity to themselves? Nay, Allah attributes purity to whom He pleases; and they shall not be wronged the husk of a date stone.

And argued that soothsayers had no right to claim such status of piety to other humans:

Those who avoid major sins and indecencies, apart from [minor and occasional] lapses. Indeed your Lord is expansive in [His] forgiveness. He knows you best since [the time] He produced you from the earth and since you were fetuses in the bellies of your mothers. So do not attribute purity to yourselves: He knows best those who fear him.

And revealed the Quran with intent to only attribute purity to Mohammad and his family:

Allah only desires to repel all impurity from you, O People of the Household, and purify you with a thorough purification.

And who have the station to be blessed with the Prophet:

Indeed Allah and His angels bless the Prophet; O you who have faith! Invoke blessings on him and invoke Peace upon him in a worthy manner.

And the way God does it:

Peace be upon the family of Yaseen

And Yaseen is Mohammad (s), one of the sent ones:

يس
Ya Seen.

I swear by the wise Quran

you are indeed one of the sent ones

Sent not only as Messenger and Prophet but as a witness and caller to God:

O Prophet! Indeed We have sent you as a witness, as a bearer of good news and as a warner

And a caller to God by God's permission, and a radiant lamp.

And he was not sent alone but another witness sent with him:

Is he who stands on a manifest proof from his Lord, and whom a witness from him follows? And before him there was the Book of Musa a leader and mercy. It is they who have faith in it, and whoever defies him from among the factions, the Fire is their tryst. So do not be in doubt about it; it is the truth from your Lord, but most people do not have faith.

And such witnesses according to the next verse will testify on the day of judgment:

Who is a greater wrongdoer than him who fabricates a lie against Allah? Such shall be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, ‘It is these who lied against their Lord.’ Behold! The curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers

And such witnesses are those who God's favor to humanity is regarding:

Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, they are with those whom Allah has favored (humanity with his religion) regarding from the prophets and the truthful, the witnesses and the righteous, and excellent companions are they!

And every people has such a witness among them:

So how shall it be, when We bring a witness from every people and We bring you as a witness to these?

Who are the leaders of the people of their time:

The day We shall summon every group of people along with their leader, then whoever is given his book in his right hand—they will read it, and they will not be wronged so much as a single date-thread.

And such leaders are the chosen ones after Mohammad (s) and God with respect to his servants is seeing, aware:

And that which We have revealed to you of the Book, that is the truth verifying that which is before it; most surely with respect to His servants Allah is Aware, Seeing.

Then we inherited the book to those who we chosen of our servants so of them (ie. servants) is he who is oppressive towards himself, and who is on a middle course and who races ahead of all in good deeds, that is the great superiority.

Chosen from those who race ahead of all in good deeds, he chose them with Mohammad (s):

And strive for the sake of Allah a striving which is worthy of Him. He has chosen you and has not placed for you any hardship in the religion, the faith of your father, Abraham. He named you submitters before, and in this, so that the Messenger may be a witness to you, and that you may be witnesses to humanity. So maintain the prayer, give the zakat, and hold fast to Allah. He is your master—an excellent master and an excellent helper.

And such Guides have signs and proofs in form of miracles:

And those who disbelieve say: Why has not a sign been revealed regarding him from his Lord? You are only a warner and for every people, there is a guide.

Signs which soothsayers don't have:

Do they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they hear? If so, let their listener produce a manifest authority.

And if anyone has authority given to Adam (a) and the successors of Adam (a) let them bring a proof:

Or Do they have authority of the heavens and earth and what is between them so let ascend by means.

Proof of clear authority, like the Quran is for Ahlulbayt (a):

Do you have a manifest authority?

Then bring your scripture, should you be truthful.

The book goes with Ahlulbayt (a) and Ali (a):

The Prophet has more Wilayah over believers then themselves and his wives are their mothers and the holders of kinship, some of them have more Wilayah then others, in the book of God from the believers and emigrants, only that you act towards your Awliya (Masters) with goodness, this is in the book is written.

And it's a covenant written in Quran about his family and taken by the Prophet (s) just as past Prophets (a) took with their people:

And when We made a covenant with the prophets and with you, and with Nuh and Ibrahim and Musa and Isa, son of Marium, and We made with them a strong covenant

A covenant by which he rewards the honest to themselves and punishes the disbelievers:

That he may ask the truthful about their truthfulness and has prepared the disbelievers a painful punishment.

A covenant taken by Musa (a) in the past with respect to the Messengers after him:

Certainly We took a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We sent Messengers to them. Whenever a Messenger brought them that which was not to their liking, they would deny some, and some they would slay.

And not only did God take a covenant with the family of Harun (a) who were the Messenger, but showed the number of the family of Musa (a) and Harun (a) with respect to successors:

Certainly Allah took a pledge from the children of Israel, and We raised among them twelve Captains And Allah said, ‘I am with you! Surely, if you maintain the prayer and give the zakat and have faith in My Messengers and support them and lend Allah a good loan, I will surely absolve you of your misdeeds, and I will surely admit you into gardens with streams running in them. But whoever of you disbelieves after that has certainly strayed from the right way.’

Captains as "by the name of God is it's sailing and anchoring..." and who were one way from one perspective, split into twelve ways from another:

And of Musa's people was a way/course who guided (people) with the truth, and thereby did they do justice.

We split them up into twelve branches as ways/courses, and We revealed to Moses, when his people asked him for water, [saying], ‘Strike the rock with your staff,’ whereat twelve springs gushed forth from it. Every people came to know its drinking-place. And We shaded them with clouds, and We sent down to them manna and quails: ‘Eat of the good things We have provided you.’ And they did not wrong Us, but they used to wrong [only] themselves

And twelve places to drink were twelve after Musa (a), no less, no more, and this is the upright religion:

Indeed the number of luminaries to be turned to for enlightenment (after Mohammad) is twelve the day God created the heavens and earth, four of them are sacred that is the upright religion so do not wrong yourselves with respect to them and fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together and know God is with the guarding ones.

And delaying Ali (a) or any Imam (a) is disbelief and would violate the sacred number made by God:

Postponing (of such a luminary) is only an addition in unbelief, wherewith those who disbelieve are led astray, violating it with respect to one generic and keeping it sacred with anther generic, that they may fit with a number that Allah has made sacred, and thus violate what Allah has made sacred; the evil of their doings is made adornment  to them; and Allah does not guide the unbelieving people.

And the if they went straight:

And that if they should keep to the (right) way, We would certainly give them to drink of abundant water,

Just as Bani-Israel would have had it had they kept straight:

And when Moses prayed for water for his people, We said, ‘Strike the rock with your staff.’ Thereat twelve fountains gushed forth from it; every people came to know its drinking-place. ‘Eat and drink of Allah’s provision, and do not act wickedly on the earth, causing corruption.’

Fountains and springs which were a cure to the hard heart:

Then your hearts hardened after that; so they are like stones, or even harder. For there are some stones from which streams gush forth, and there are some of them that split, and water issues from them, and there are some that fall for the fear of Allah. And Allah is not oblivious of what you do.

And the miracles of Musa and his staff were not enough to make them fear Allah (swt) with respect to his twelve successors:

But on account of their breaking their covenant We cursed them and made their hearts hard; they altered the words from their places and they neglected a portion of what they were reminded of; and you shall always discover treachery in them excepting a few of them; so pardon them and turn away; surely Allah loves those who do good (to others).

As a result of denial of guides who perform such miracles, there were a period without a Guide in public:

Nothing kept Us from sending signs except that the former peoples denied them. We gave Thamud the she-camel as an eye-opener, but they wronged her. We do not send the signs except as to cause fear.

As such the Guide like Elyas (a) during period between Isa (a) and Mohammad (s) is not in public now:

They say, ‘Why has not a sign regarding him been revealed from his Lord?’ Say, ‘the hiding/hidden is only up to Allah. So wait. I too am waiting along with you.’

So let's patiently wait and pray to be guided by the hands of the Guide of our time.

As for the names in Quran, titles are something we refer to. If I tell a non-Muslim "Imam Ali Ar-Reda", they probably have no clue until I clarify "the 8th Imam of 12", which is more accurate to manifesting who they are. So in this way, their numbers are closer to their reality and a better title. But aside from that, they are given unique titles in Quran each one of them.

I will expand on why each one of them is assigned the particular one after.

Mohammad (s) - Yaseen
Ali (a) - Taha
Fatima (a) -Aliflamraa
Hassan (a) -Ainseenqaaf
Hussain (a) - Hameem
Ali (a) son of above - Taseen
Mohammad (a) son of above - Taseenmeem
Jaffar (a) son of above - Aliflammeemsaad
Musa (a) son of above - Qaaf
Ali (a) son of above - Noon
Mohammad (a) son of Above - KaafHaaYaaAiinSaad
Ali (a) son of above - Saad
Hassan (a) son of above - Aliflammeem
Mohammad (a) son of above - Aliflammeemraa

And although they are all about all of them, the title and chapters under them specialize towards a specific.

I will expand more later.

And of course Ulil-Amr in 4:59 is clear by context of 4:54. So if you don't see Ulil-Amr being clear, it has nothing to do with lack of context by God and you don't see the flow for other reasons.

By the name of God, the (universally) Compassionate, The (extremely) Compassionate; for the unity of the Togetherness; Is their unity in the travels in the winter and summer. So let them Worship the Lord of this household. The one who fed them from hunger and gave them security from fear.

It's because you read Quran, playfully and obtusely and let the sorcery deceive you. For example, if you read 42:23 with seriousness to know it's truth, it would guide you.

I think the real reason is that the 12 imams don't appear in the Qur'an and so most Muslims don't know them. There is no sorcery at play with me. It's not my fault that imamism is a made up belief.

I skimmed through your post above and as expected you cannot show any proof from the Qur'an. You're just making up association with the imams.

Don't you feel ashamed, that whilst you accuse others of being under sorcery, you're deliberately trying to distort the meaning of the Qur'an? Your imams names are not anywhere in the Qur'an.

I wrote this earlier in this thread as one of my advices of the day:

Don't take your doubt as a proof of something being unclear. Let me elaborate as to why.

Imam Ali (a) is reported in Nahjul balagha to have said:

Doubt is named doubt (al-shubhah) because it resembles truth. As for lovers of Allah, their conviction serves them as light and the direction of the right path (itself) serves as their guide; while the enemies of Allah, in time of doubt call to misguidance in the darkness of doubt and their guide is blindness. One who fears death cannot escape it nor can one who loves eternal life secure it.

I'm going to go with this a bit. Let us divert ourselves from the good old Atheist vs Theist debate for a second.

A person is shown that a verse says this and that, and it's clear, but often, we see disbelief takes on the form of:

"Well I myself don't accept it, a lot of people don't accept it, so it must be unclear and God could've said something else (more clear), and God if he wanted us to follow this and that, would've said it a more clear way."

The problem that occurred with Mohammad (s) is that his signs were very bright in form of miracles, but they would say, why isn't he given the like of Messengers before, despite the fact, he was given miracles and signs, and they accused him of sorcery. In other words, no matter what sign he brought, to them, the past miracles were always better, even though his signs were often even bigger signs than of the Prophets (a) of the past.

Going back to debate between Theists and Atheists, often, an atheist makes in the form of:

"Well I myself doubt if I have objective value, I don't see it clearly like you, therefore, you must be believing it on blind faith in some way or otherwise I would see it like you"

This is a terrible problem with humans, when they take their blindness as proof that a proof is not clear.

Mohammad's (s) people, all the miracles they were shown, often, would say (some believed, most did not), why aren't you given signs like those before you and would accuse his signs of being works of sorcery. This was not due to his signs being less in greatness then those before him and less bright, nor due to genuine sincere doubt of the people opposing to it.

Similarly, I believe Ahlulbayt (a) position is often clarified clearly in Quran and Sunnah, but people take their disbelief and blindness as proof it's not proven.

This is a vicious circle.
By the name of God, the (universally) Compassionate, The (extremely) Compassionate; for the unity of the Togetherness; Is their unity in the travels in the winter and summer. So let them Worship the Lord of this household. The one who fed them from hunger and gave them security from fear.
