'Ali (ra)'s successor was Maalik al-Ashtar

I've been doing some research on Maalik al-Ashtar, I've always found him an ambigious character.

I came across this little gem recently:

Source: خلاصة الاقوال في معرفة الرجال - Page 277

Author: 'Allamah al-Hilli

Summary: 'Ali (ra) said, when Maalik al-Ashtar died: "He was to me as I was to Rasul Allah (saw)"

Interesting!
در خلافت میل نیست ای بی‌خبر
میل کی آید ز بوبکر و عمر
میل اگر بودی در آن دو مقتدا
هر دو کردندی پسر را پیشوا

how could any shia miss that one? They could've made up a new sect out of it.

Let's pretend this is the line al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Nawbakhti would write in his book

"Maalik al-Ashtar did not die. Ali pretend that he died to protect him. Hasan and Husein fought with Maalik's permission. He would not die until he had driven the nawasib and filled the earth with justice & fairness after it has been filled with oppression and injustice. They said that he was the Mahdi. They were called the Ashtariya" :D

This is actually proof that he is not his successor.

Harun is the vizier of Musa.

Ali is the vizier of Mohammad peace be upon him.

Al-Ashtar is the vizier of Ali.

Harun was NOT the successor of Musa.

Ali was NOT the successor of Mohammad peace be upon him.

Al-Ashtar was NOT the successor of Ali.

It's surprising how Shiite masses don't know about "schocking" narrations like this.
Before Qazî Mihemed, President of the first kurdish Republic Mahabad was hanged the iranian judge asked:

“last words?”

Qazî: “I thank Allah: even in death he put my shoes above your heads”

I think the context is in reference to protection.

I invoke Ameen. ( last time I succeeded in doing so)
