Title: Baladhuri and "Kill Muawiyah if you see him on my pulpit"
Post by: TOAA on August 05, 2019, 03:52:00 AM
As we all know the hadith "If you see Muawiyah on my minbar, kill him" is one of the most famous forged hadiths in existence.

Yet Baladhuri in his ansaab al-ashraaf narrates it with seemingly authentic chains from Abdallah ibn Mas'ud and al-Hasan Al-Basri.

The chain up to Al-Hasan

The chain up to Abdallah

Baladhuri is the only one to narrate this with these authentic chains,no one else has recorded these asanid which is very suspicious. And Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani denied that Al-Hasan ever narrated this and said Amr ibn Ubaid the mutazili lied and attributed it to al-Hasan.

Perhaps Baladhuri leans towards weakness rather than being majhul?
