Question about Tha'laba Al-Ansari
« on: June 22, 2016, 07:25:05 PM »
Salam alaykum,

A certain person asked me about the Verses 9:75-78 (translation: 'And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah , [saying], "If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous." But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused. So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him - because they failed Allah in what they promised Him and because they [habitually] used to lie. Did they not know that Allah knows their secrets and their private conversations and that Allah is the Knower of the unseen?')

Reference was made to the following Tafseers:

I have asked one person also to look into the matter, but since it seems something Shias would bring up as well (in that Badri Companions are not at all exempt from Hellfire), perhaps there is some additional research I could be pointed towards? [If any objections to the authors/exegetes' methodology or Aqeedah exist, please do not bring these up, just the issue itself can be addressed. Jazakumullah Khairan]

Thank you,
Wa Salaam.

Wa alaykum alsalam wa rahmatullah,

Sh. Adaab Al Hamsh has a book on this. Basically, there are a couple of narrations that say that Tha'laba is meant by the narration and they are very weak. They strongest narrations about this are from Qatada and Mujahid and they do not mention Tha'laba.
