Book translation project "Imamah wal-Nass"
« on: February 28, 2015, 01:39:53 AM »
al-Salamu `Aleykum,

Some of you may know the book "al-Imamah wal-Nass" by Faysal Noor, this is a rich book written by a knowledgeable man on the matter of Imamah. This was the first book I ever read back when my Arabic was very terrible and my knowledge about the Shia sects was very basic and limited.

I cannot describe how helpful that book was to me and now I intend to re-read it InshaAllah and I had a thought of translating some chapters from this book seeing as though it is quite large and some chapters may not be as useful as others.

I wonder how this will turn out, but InshaAllah if I begin it will solve itself.

The book can be found here in Arabic and Farsi, I do not know how good is the Farsi translation:

I'm getting Imam Jafar's book by Shaykh Abu Zahra translated from Urdu to English. Its 20% complete so far.

As for this book you mention what does it cover which is useful ?

This is definitely a great idea.

How about "أصول مذهب الشيعة الإمامية الإثني عشرية - عرض ونقد -"?

I'd be happy to volunteer to help translate some sections - but I would need someone to check my translations, and I do find some Arabic phrases hard to translate - so it wouldn't be 100%.

Usool Madhab al-Shia is very large, two volumes which even I haven't read yet out of Taqseer. In fact if we're talking about what deserves to be translated the most, it is Minhaj-ul-Sunnah by ibn Taymiyyah, I've read a part or two from that book and it is solid and intelligent.

Definitely, translating books of this caliber requires good level of Arabic and English. Sometimes I fear that when I ask someone to translate with me that I'd have to go back and revise his entire translation, this means a lot of time will be needed and I'd rather translate it all myself haha.

I was actually thinking of going back to my old translation of "Imamah a continuation of prophet-hood" as I'm not pleased with its translation, I've become much better since and I need to revise the entire thing.

(This is hard stuff I know and I blame it on our governments who should invest a lot of money and effort into doing this for us instead of having us do it)

Walaikum Salam,

May Allah reward and help you dear brother.

The Farsi translation is good.

As for this book you mention what does it cover which is useful ?

Everything about Imamah i..e one section about Imamah in the Quran, other section is discussion and analysis of Shia narrations that Shia use to prove Imamah of Ali and their authenticity according to Shia Hadith Science (the author calls this section an important one) etc.

I'm thinking of a better idea since my hand hurts from all the typing, maybe I could make it as a series on youtube where I actually read and explain the book in English at the same time.

Compared to videos, I think articles are read more. Safety goes first ofcourse, so let those fingers of yours have a rest.

Very good idea - some people actually prefer listening to reading, and I bet it'd be way more fun for you.

I personally believe that a video series would be best, and that a volunteer could make an article on the video afterwards. Inshallah in the future I'll be able to translate, I'm currently not that good  :-\

That's my first try, tell me what you guys think... it won't all make sense unless we go further into the book... Anyway if the feedback (which I hope will be honest) is positive, then we'll continue.

Best to watch at highest quality for sources to be visible:

I just went through the entire clip. Jazakallah for the time and effort. I don't think its the funding we lack to refute the 12ers, the problem is going through all these lies is a boring job. You need a lot of motivation. This what we are lacking against the 12ers. Seriously would the average Sunni want to go through the details of  so called 'sacred knowledge' ?

Anyway, my view on these narrations is that   they are romantic fairy tales. What the leader of Hussainiyah do in their group is start of by talking about the oppression and massacres  committed against the Imams and their community. After all this a romantic drug has to be used to relieve the community from the trauma that they are fed. Therefore these romantic narrations are then injected. On top of that the  narration are nothing but  emotional blackmail  since they tell the 12er that they are the only intelligent ones to accept it, and rest of ammi world are losers and unaware of what they are missing out on. In the aftermath of all of  this the 12er community feels special and starts to increase their hatred against any other Muslim who thinks differently.

Anyway, please keep on going. When I go the 12er Shia in trying to seek knowledge they seem to experts in character assassinating the Sahaba directly or indirectly. However, when I ask them to provide more details on their Imams, they rarely have much to say. So from this clips, many of us including the 12ers are gaining more  knowledge about their sect which is rarely covered in this much detail in a regular 12er Shia majalis.

Jazak-Allah Khayr for the feedback, I'd like to hear the opinions of maybe three more people before I decide to make another one.

My opinion:

Didn't watch the complete video yet, so see my feedback as optional/extra.

I didn't expect the first video would be out so fast, ma sha Allah. Audio is very clear and isn't "monotone", so it doesn't get boring.

As for the duration of the video, I think it's a bit long. Maybe it's because of the length of the book, so to get trough this, making long videos might be neccesary.

How about something like 15-20 minutes ? :/

Shows how the Imami sect was fabricating all types of narrations and attributing them to the Prophet (swa) and the Ahlulbayt.

My opinion about the video. It was a bit long - I say 10 minutes is fine (just my opinion).

Guys complaining about length, there' a pause button : )  you Can stop whenever you like, save the last bit you reached in notepad, and if you have a youtube account, it will automatically re-open from the last minute you stopped at.

This book is large, if I do 10-15 min videos, it's never gonna finish, I'm not just reading, I'm also translating which takes a bit more time, also notice that I was only able to finish that one chapter and I stopped at the end of it.

This is an academic study of the 12er Shia sect. So you have to make sacrifices and dedicate long hours.
